Loose Yarn Fiberglass (Handi, Patti & Roving)
Loose yarn fiberglass includes untwisted or slightly twisted strands of glass fiber available in different forms like Handi, Patti, and Roving. Each type serves various reinforcement, winding, and composite applications.
Types of Loose Yarn Fiberglass:
1. Handi (Fiberglass Yarn Rolls)
Soft rolls of fine fiberglass yarn
Easy to handle and feed in manual or semi-auto processes
Mostly used for wrapping, sewing, braiding, and weaving
2. Patti (Flat Fiberglass Strip Yarn)
Wider and flatter than Handi
Good for surface reinforcement and wrapping in GRC/GRP applications
Common in decorative panel molds, waterproofing, and surface treatment
3. Roving (Direct or Assembled Roving)
A bundle of continuous, untwisted filaments
High tensile strength and volume
Used in pultrusion, filament winding, spray-up, and hand lay-up processes
Key Properties:
High tensile strength
Alkali and chemical resistant
Suitable for manual handling and processing
Non-corrosive and moisture resistant
Compatible with polyester, epoxy, and vinyl ester resins
Common Uses:
GRC / GRP Products
Reinforcement for architectural panels, planters, cornices
Layered inside molds for extra strength
Filament Winding
Making pipes, tanks, poles, and housings
Manual Lay-up
Boat building, roofing sheets, and vehicle bodies
Wrapping / Stitching
Wrapping around joints, duct systems, and in insulation stitching
Textile and Braiding
Used as raw material in braided fiberglass ropes, tapes, and cloths
